Bloating and Digestion Woe’s?
Here are some tips on what and when to drink, to turn your digestive system around..
1. Don’t drink water with your food, drink it an hour later at least. Water dilutes your stomach acid, which makes it harder for your stomach to break down the food, which will then sit in your gut for much longer and produce gas.
2. Sip water, don’t drink a whole bottle in one go. This will stretch your stomach and lead to bloating. Drinking cold water will also irritate your stomach lining so keep it room temperature.
3. Avoid carbonated drinks which are full of gas and sometimes also additives which can irritate your stomach lining.
4. Tea can be useful to relieve bloating but coffee is an irritant for your stomach lining, especially if you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, or have recently had a bad case of gastritis. If you need to heal your stomach lining, ditch the coffee (decaf is just as bad, sorry!). Coffee also stimulates the emptying of the stomach before your food has been properly digested, which is really important for all those nutrients to be properly absorbed.
